Photographer of the Week #189: Kevin Osepa

Kevin Osepa is a Curaçao born photographer based in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Kevin Osepa’s work revolves around his identity and the identity of Afro-Caribbean youth in a post-colonial world. Using different experimental techniques he creates (colorful) visual stories that explore themes such as Religion, African diaspora and Family.

In ‘Mester blousé’ Osepa examines how his identity was formed by the spiritual beliefs, rituals and culture of his birth island Curaçao. Within this project he uses the spiritual symbolism and rituals that he grew up with to tell the history of him and his family. As a man of colour who grew up in a religious and ‘brua practicing’ environment.
